Lifepoint/DRMC coverage in Martinsville today….

One thing I am trying to figure out….did the folks in Martinsville go through a painful transition when they were bought by Lifepoint? If not, was it because that hospital was closer in size and scale to Lifepoint’s typical hospital? Or, did they go through a transition when bought by Province, the owner before Lifepoint? If any of you are familiar with the deal there, please post a comment.

LifePoint under Fire in Danville
The Danville Register is reporting that Dr. Stewart Sharp, a Danville oncologist, is closing his practice and moving to Texas because he is concerned about LifePoint’s commitment to patient care. Sharp claims the number of patients at the Danville Hospital is decreasing because of deteriorating health care and the nurse-to-patient ratio has risen from 1 to 5 to as high as 1 to 8.
Hospital officials responded to Sharp’s remarks by saying they were committed to providing excellent care, but didn’t dispute his accusations.
The situation has gotten so bad that the Danville City Council has requested a meeting Tuesday night with the Hospital’s CEO. The Danville Mayor, who is also a physician, said “It is time City Council take action on behalf of our citizens, first to determine the facts, then to offer solutions.
LifePoint also owns the Martinsville Hospital.

RUMOR has it Martinsville sustained much more acute damage when purchased by Province and transitioned to for profit. It now seems to be doing well as a LifePoint facility.

I had 3 friends that worked at Martinsville when Province bought them. All 3 now work at NC Baptist in Winston Salem, NC. They had close to the same thing happen there as we are having now. The staff was cut drasticallly, drs. left, and services were cut. When Lifepoint took over they actually had to hire some people, so they looked like heros. The interesting thing here is that Province corporate employees were brought in to DRMC as consultants to facilitate cutting expenses. That made me wonder if these two were in bed together all along. The same "marine mentality" and using company sponsored rumors to frighten the employees so many would leave were used in both places. A lot of my family lives in Martinsville area and they started using Carillion in Rocky Mount and Roanoke.Biker.

I work in Martinsville now, but was not there when the change to Lifepoint went down. Per some current employees who were there when Providence bought them out, there were some cuts, but none as drastic as there were in Danville. (or else they are just holding back on the horror stories!) The staff at Martinsville overall seem to be content and the hospital is a pleasure to work in. The staffing seems to be much more appropriate versus what I have heard about Danville, I know I personally have not had the short staff experience like they are having in Danville. The sad part is that I used to work in DRMC a few years back, and I really thought it was a good place to work! So sad what has happened and how tarnished the reputation of the hospital is now.

If JCAHO comes in a shuts them down with this coming up inspection then all this Lifepoint crap may not matter anymore anyway.....we just won't have a hospital!!!!

The decreasing number of patients going to DRMC explains why the wait times in the emergency room have dropped. Did Lifepoint think that the public would not figure that out. They put this stupid ad in the newspaper about the wait time dropping as if they did something great to improve the ER wait times. Lifepoint is an evil entity that must be stopped.

I find it interesting that if DRMC Lifepoint has "adequate" staffing according to their administration, then why are they offering ICU nurses from Martinsville Lifepoint double time to come to DRMC and work? If they are not short staffed and everything is fine, why would they need them and pay them so much more than the staff who is already in house?

Yes, the ad bragging about the three-hour ER waiting time is insulting and an accurate measure of Lifepoint's willingness to tell any lie on any occasion to work its way out of the hole without paying for real changes.

Another example is the front-page story about DRMC rushing out to the Free Clinic of Danville to make a contributon. That's simply a payoff to get the destitute out of the ER without really fixing anything.

This 4th CEO not only is indifferent to our healthcare but he exhibits contempt for our intelligence if he thinks people don't see through these tricks.

I DON'T LIKE BEATING ON DEAD HORSES, BUT LETS GET BACK TO THE FELLOWS YALL ARE SO MAD ABOUT THAT SOLD THE HOSPITAL. WHY DOESNT THE MAYOR OR SOMEBODY ASK THOSE GUYS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. THEY HAVE THE MONEY TO DO SOMETHING. ABOUT $200,000,000. I HAVE NOT READ WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT ALL THIS. SOME OF YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE SO MAD NEED TO ASK THEM. THEY ARE HIGHLY PUBLIC SPIRIT MEN, AND THEY MIGHT HAVE THE ANSWERS WE NEED.

HAD ENOUGH

If that bunch knew anything about a running a hospital they wouldn't have sold it while running scared from some future medicare/medicaid cuts. These men that HAD ENOUGH so admires should have been thinking past the $$$$$$$$. And these men could have stopped the sale...why do you think they kept it so quiet HAD ENOUGH? Because they do not like to have their judgement questioned. They are the reason we are even asking questions, do you think that we should trust their answers?Biker.

The money in the foundation should be used to build a new hospital and the men who were on the board that sold the hospital should be banned from using it.

I heard a rumor that one of the bank boys was at the council meeting tonight. Anyone know? HAD ENOUGH should know. If true, would that be good or bad? What could it mean

Got news for Dr. Sharp and the rest of the community. The nurse to patient ratio on medical floors was never 1-5, more like 1-8 before Lifepoint took over. Now that Lifepoint has taken over the nurse to patient ratios are more like 1-10 up to 1-14. It's like working in a glorified nursing home. No time to take really good care of your patients. More like here's your meds and I'll clean you up if I can keep my other 3 patients from falling out of the bed since I don't have anybody to help me. Take my word for it. Go somewhere else for your healthcare.

Fed up with all the lies.

Watching the City Council meeting on Star News right now. Have not seen one of the bank boys, but Coy Harville was there.

I was at City Council work session, I did not see any of the boys at the bank. Yes, Coy was there along with many nurses from DRMC and others that used to work at DRMC. DR. Jones, DR. Miller and DR. Caldwell were also there. lifepoint brought the big boys in...Jess Judy, a brand new CNO(from corporate lifepoint), another paid consultant for JACHO, Art the Reptile, and a tall distinquished looking man who sat in the back and was not introduced. This man went straight to Art after the meeting adjourned and patted him on the back and then stood to the side while the Reptile was talking to the media. I thought Sherman Saunders and Pete Castiglione did a nice job, while David Luther and John Hamlin wimped out. Of course David Luther was on the advisory board of DRMC while it was being sold and also is a business partner with Mr. Ashby. biker.

The "tall distinguished looking man standing in the back of the room" was Mr. John Lambert. He provides public relations support for DRMC. He is responsible for the scripts that were read to City Council.

Thank you, I wondered what silver (haired)tongued devil was doing all these newspaper ads, etc. He is the spin doctor responsible for tricking all the employees into posing for ads that they did not know they were doing. Also the dancing preachers ad...biker
