It's been a crazy week...

Sorry about the lack of posts….too much going on this week with Joint Commission.

So, how are things in your area? If Joint Commission came through your department, how did it go?

Wonder when we will get to hear the results….the word is that the summary will be given in a closed session. That’s too bad.

JOINT COMMISSION RESULTS:

DRMC is ACCREDITED !!!!
but, as expected , AND AS IN THE PAST 2 of 3 surveys (ALL before LfePoint), there are requirements for improvement (RFI's).

Hooray!

what happened to dr miller. did you drive him out of town. congratulations nurses!! you did it not lpnt!! believe this is your hospital as bad as it is and as great as it will be!!!

Anonymous said...

What do you mean what happened to Dr. Miller? Will he be leaving?

Anonymous said...

We all need to start working together for the better of the hospital. Let us no forget why we are there.. that is for the patient. Maybe LPNT will see all of our hardwork, dedication, and loyalty to the hospital. I suspect that they will soon begin to give each of us bonuses for or efforts (LOL).

yes, drmiller has resigned as medical staff president due to his failure last year. i dont think he will leave town but it is very sad!! no one knows

Anonymous said...

What failure?

Anonymous said...

Dr Miller did not resign as chief of the medical staff. His 2 year term had ended. These men are elected by their peers;LifePoint nor DRMC appoints them.

Anonymous said...

ANy inclination as to who will be the next chief of medical staff?

Anonymous said...

dr oneill got one vote his own what a great man so compassionate and caring

The above poster is full of lifepoint crap...Dr. O'Neill could give a ------ ---- who the chief of medicine is...he has been instrumental in bringing the level of care at DRMC to "world class". His cutting edge medicine is second to none in pulmonary practice. He is outspoken, but you always know where you stand with him. He has not wimped out in his stand against lifepoint and he has not been afraid to speak up for the nurses and other staff. The lives he has saved in this area are way too many to even count, the patients who now have better quality of life because of his care are way too many to count and his personal standards are so much higher than any lifepoint money monger they would have to fly to the moon to even see them. The above poster is way off base. Biker.

The poster trying to trash Dr. O'Neill logged on from Clarksville, Tenn. It is probably that consultant that called Danville-Dumville and said our nurses were way over paid. Dr. O'Neill was instrumental in helping run her f-t a-s out of here. She is one of lifepoint's henchmen and one of the original reasons none of us will ever trust them. Biker.

Dr O'Neill has done good things for the community at large and is an outspoken opponenet of LifePoint.
However, his manner in doing so, wandering from unit to unit, espousing his views has ceratinly done little for the morale of DRMC staff either. The method of delivery, while meant maybe to be constructive, really is not. Yes, he has high standards.Yet he often is viewed, even when he is wrong or has wronged someone, that he is beyond reproach...outwardly.That's his cross to bear.

Once again, the essnece of this blog has strayed off course...
Thanks, D ! I mean, BIKER

Why, you are welcome ,anonymous...besides I didn't take the website off course , I responded to the one who did in Tennessee...don't you want to thank her , too? So glad you responded with my initial(name) it tells me volumes...Biker, I mean D.

Heard conversation: DRMC Intensive Care supervisor fired, then 4 Intensive Care nurses resigned. True? Recent? C. Ames

Anonymous said...

Richard Smith is the new Chief of the medical staff at DRMC? I hope he will be able to support us here and not let his politically correct lifepoint views get in the way of the truth at hand.

Critical Care is at its all time low (staff wise). It would only seem right to keep this high acuity area up to the standars the patients deserve. Yet, LPNT sees no problem. Lifepoint seems so quick to fire. That nurse had 30 years of experience, very hard worker and yet a simple little matter marked her last day at DRMC. Watch your back!!!!! Not only will LPNT stab you so will your co-workers.

She was conveniently fired after JCAHO was gone. If you cannot staff CCU then your most expensive and loss leading patients have to be transferred. That is how the big boys make money--- right Art!! WHo is the new lady putting the fear of --- into all our nursing managers?

Anonymous said...

Were all the Boys at the Bank on hand yesterday for the festivities?

Ben Davenport is not stupid enough to use the local hospital. Not now not before Lpnt. Bob Ashby now there is a man celebrating accreditation. He is surely the loneliest human being and certainly deservedly so. Like Ebenezer Scrooge lots of money and no one to play with!!

Anonymous said...

Sentinel event: I just want to thank you for providing a forum for truth. Has anyone read the registerandbee today? They insist lpnt does not have a standard for staffing the hospital "no shoehorn". Any manager of any hospital knows there is a budget and all hell breaks loose in nashville when the numbers are not met . All the "O's" are paid like 50% bonuses for making the cuts stick. Is ther not any truth in journalism-- only Pete Castiglioni can keep the heat on!!

Anonymous said...

Someone who works for Davenport told my husband that he DOES use the hospital. Said he went there recently with heavy nosebleed from an accidant and said he got excellent service and did not have to wait at all.

It is amazing that there is no corporate shoehorn to force DRMC in to. As an employee, I have heard more than once that our man hours do not meet the standard. If the standard does not come from Tennessee, where does it come from?? We are struggling to take care of our patients with the staffing we have. When someone resigns, it is nearly impossible to get them replaced. And OVERTIME is 2 four letter words! An obscenity to the delicate ears of the bottom line!

I'm just so sad. All my friends and family that work at/ or formerly worked at (who left by conscientious choice BTW) must really be lying to me. First there were the "dancing preachers" to tell me everything is ok at DRMC, and now Joint Commission? (assuming the previous post about accreditation is correct) What about all the letters to the editors from the doctors? Are they just being too concerned for my well being? Don't they know they can make money off me whether I live or die at DRMC? They simply MUST learn the value of a dollar!!
Life really sucks sometimes.

The latest and greatest Interim CNO is a "company lady". A word of caution, her true colors are beginning to show, beware to those of you who have been influenced by her initial actions.

It is time to take a stand for what we beleive in. Lets show them that this place can not run without us.

From FWDixon -

Fellow citizens, devote yourselves to meaningful Google searches, and tell us what you find. Each search seems to produce MUCH information on Life?Point and/or relative to their public statements. It's a
hugely rich trove. Life?Point execs are caricatures of themselves.

For example, a Google search for the string terms
- hospital accreditation scandal joint commission -
produces thousands of returns, many of which are pertinent and fascinating.

Following, for example, is a portion of one of them. It seems to explain the last few days in Danville. The original post was to hcrenewal.blogspot.com by

JCAHO Defines (Hospitals' Quality of Care) Deviancy Down

The Los Angeles Times reported how the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has lowered their quality standards for hospitals. Apparently after getting "better-trained inspectors and
switch this year to surprise reviews," JCAHO found they were finding more problems when they inspected hospitals. So, Joseph L Cappiello, Vice President of Accreditation Field Operations for JCAHO, said, "we shouldn't deny accreditation to 10 or 15 or 20% of all hospitals in the United States." Instead, they have increased the allowable number of
deficiencies.

US Senator Charles E Grassley (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, commented, "government investigators have already documented that the Joint Commission misses too many serious problems and rarely drops any hospital's accreditation. This move to weaken standards seems to be going in the opposite direction of what makes sense for quality of care."

We physicians hear more and more about how many errors we allegedly
commit, and about how our reimbursements will soon be subject to pay-for- performance. . . . Yet while physicians feel ever increasing pressure to increase quality of care, when more stringent hospital inspections find more problems, the hospital inspectors decide that they
will make their grading standard more lenient. How curious.

The LA Times article did note that JCAHO is paid by the hospitals it
inspects, and "owns a consulting business that helps hospitals prepare for its reviews." In a previous post, we also noted reports of other possible
conflicts of interest affecting JCAHO. These possible conflicts are
important because the federal government has given JCAHO responsibility for most evaluations of hospital quality. Do these possible conflicts of interest have anything to do with what could not be called JCAHO's defining down (hospitals' quality of care) deviancy? Once again, inquiring
minds want to know.

Comments;
Critical care supervisor not fired...she asked to leave early.
Other staff are frustrated and leaving.
Critical care nurse was fired...more to story than SHE needs to have revealed here. Dignity , please. This occured PRIOR to Joint Commission. PLEASE GET THE FACTS CORRECT.
New interim CNO..may be a company woman but, she has integrity and a willingness to right some wrongs. What's is been ? 9-10 days at the most.....
Yes , some of the "Boys at the Bank" attended......it is their community resourse also. Mr Davenport has recently used the DRMC ED and been an inpatient. He was treated with the respect and care ANY/EVERY patient would have been offered.

Thanks for clarity on the Critical Care issue however based on closed door comments made just last week, I cannot agree with "the integrity" of the Interim CNO. I'm afraid she is saying "what we want to hear" just to alleviate some heat of the moment and slow down what could turn out to be mass exodus of nurses...the verdict is still out with this latest player.

Anonymous said...

Funny...the letter I got said nothing about us being accredited. Seems to me that, if that were the case, then the words "good job...we are accredited" would have been in big bold type across the top. It would be nice to have an all-hands employee meeting to discuss how things went, but I'm sure THAT's going to happen.

Patiently waiting to find out...

CCU director was NOT fired, she resigned because of the Lifepoint situation and could not take it anymore. I know this for a FACT....don't trash her because she is a great person and a great nurse.

Anonymous said...

The ICU Director that left is a great person and wonderful nurse. I hope her bad experiences with lifepoint doesn't keep her from doing a management job somewhere else...somewhere that will appreciate her and her abilities.
