Very well put...this deserves to be on the front page!

"While the statements in Mr. Doloresco's letter are presumably accurate, and would be what any CEO of good conscience would say, Failure to pass JCAHO accreditation would indeed hurt Lifepoint. DRMC is the largest Lifepoint facility and Lifepoint is an investor owned company.Insurance companies will not pay for services rendered at a facility which does not carry JCAHO accreditation. This would be a huge financial kick in the teeth for DRMC and Lifepoint from financial and quality of care standpoints. If your goal is to hurt Lifepoint, that would certainly garner attention. However, realize this is a double-edged sword with a giant ripple effect on the community. Think about this in the event of a JCAHO survey failure:

1. Your insurance would be no good at the facility. You and everyone you know who needed to go to the hospital would have to pay the whole bill (no managed care discount) because insurance companies would refuse to authorize treatment at a non-accredited facility.

2. Since your insurance will no longer pay for services, you and yours would have to seek hospital services elsewhere. Martinsville, South Boston, or North Carolina. Right now, you have a choice of not using DRMC. If they fail the JCAHO survey, the choice is gone. By the way, Lifepoint also owns the Martinsville hospital.

3. The survey is a reflection of the quality, monitoring, and management of care and their outcomes. Failing the survey would hurt the hospital, but it would be a direct reflection of how the people who live in Danville and work at DRMC take care of their neighbors. The social stigma of being affiliated with that would be awful.

4. If the hospital fails, and money is cut off, services and employees would go and go quickly. Can Danville handle a significant layoff of what is now the city's second largest employer?

I am sure there are other considerations, but these are just a few that come to mind. While I doubt Mr. Doloresco's personal commitment to the community and DRMC (he is new to the town), his words are true. This being said, I would make a couple of observations and address Mr. Doloresco in this blog.It is interesting that DRMC has appeared to have a revolving door in the CEO position, and that Lifepoint execs have made more than one trip to Danville to apologize for things they should have done differently. Good heads have rolled at their expense and they should be aware that in a town such as Danville, any loss of employment stirs feelings of anger and resentment within the community. There are intelligent people in Lifepoint. I beilieve a cause-and-effect and cost/benefit ananlysis would be in order before corporate and hospital administrative mouths utter future promises. Many in the community love and trust DRMC with their lives. Those you do not need worry about Mr. Doloresco. Obviously, however, there is still plenty of unrest in the community regarding our hospital. Elbow grease, not flowery, Art-ful, rah-rah speeches, is what you need to commit. Push a mop, register a patient, drive the shuttle bus. It is what you do....and continue to do, that will make the change. Your words are nice, but your actions have said so much more, and many believe the two contradict each other. True, you are the CEO and have primary responsibilities. Unfortunately, those around you fail to see you handling those well either. If they did, would you have been called before the city council the same way as one of your predecessors?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. What are you and Lifepoint doing different?

The ball is in your court. "

EDIT: Didn't mean this should be put on the front page of the newspaper....just on the front page of the blog. There are too many good points made in this to be buried on a back comment page.

I have already e-mailed the editor of Register & Bee about investigating the Jt. Comm. and putting the results on the front page. If they don't, it proves to me that they have been bought and paid for by the boys at the bank. biker.

Sentinal event et.Al. I don't know who you are or whether or not you are even in VA.
But the failing of DRMC for accreditation ,if it does,Is NOT a reflection of the employees. The same employees that have passed previous audits are mostly still there, the problem is the staff has been cut, the resources have been cut,THE WORST Most inefficient computer system ever devised is in use, the nurse/pt ratio destroyed, and you can not do as well for 3,7,10 as you can for 2,4, etc. As long as overcompensated CEO's and the affiliate 'good 'ole boy networks' are allowed to exist, the state of employers such as DRMC will be as it is, pathetic. Many lower salaries cannot support a few extremely high nonproductivity hours as is with CEO's.Productivity hours being a Lifepoint term.
Pay attention to the real cause ,greed. A facility with all things constant does not degrade as DRMC has , the only variable has been Lifepoint. The city of Danville in general has no desire to be "world class", learn the history of why employers have not come and why the cities in periphery to Danville are MUCH more successful than Danville in regards to Schools, shopping, medical care, employment, etc. The most succesful Hospitals are non-profit,do the research.
If DRMC has to close and it's citizenry move then so be it.
The youth already move as quickly as possible and that has not changed in the past 30 years of Danville History.

Yes, it all goes back to the insipid culture of greed that has fueled this region's pitiful economy for generations. Tobacco and textiles were utterly dependent upon the cheapest labor. The key to keeping the labor cheap was keeping the workers uneducated. The results included the giant fortunes for a few families.

Greed fueled the sale of DRMC. A few men from American National Bank believed money they would play with was worth the medical welfare of our community. They installed the hapless Bob Ashby as their frontman and moved on to wreck one of the few good things in the community.

Now, of course, greed rules the day again, as Lifepoint siphons the life out of DRMC. Where are the men who brought us Lifepoint? Where are Barkhouser, Motley, Davenport and Majors?

And for that matter, where is that tireless tiger named Bill Fuller, Commonwealth's Attorney, and why isn't he on top of this?

In the total absence of community leadership, the Circuit Court should convene a Special Grand Jury to haul in the bank boys, Ashby, and key people from Lifepoint, put them under oath, and get to the bottom of this ruthless greed that threatens to destroy what's left of DRMC.

I, too, have no idea whether the Blog is coming from some PR outfit in Brentwood, Tennessee, or truly from someone who cares about this community.

The "front page" posting at hand certainly suggests a Brentwood connection. It is a threatening message aimed at frightening those who would like to see the full recovery of DRMC.

Obviously, LifePoint was duped by the guys who sold them something too big and too complex for their abilities. That $200,000,000 should be used to get the hospital back and reach a sensible solution with one of the not-for-profits in the area that would have at heart the community's best interests.

Bloggers on this site have great input, but why haven't you put your information out to the media?

Because the newspaper is afraid of offending Lifepoint and losing the $$$$$ from the hospital ad campaign, inlcuding the famous Dancing Preachers Ad. As fopr the radio station, that's run by B. R. Ashby, one of the slime-balls who got us into this whole mess. Dry Fork

Why does the martinsville hospital run so well? I think because the CEO and board are in charge. Why does Danville run so well ; maybe because the doctors and nurses run it for B R Ashby. No one does anything without the BIG DOG's approval. Not even billy carpenter and billy gracey and miss judy.

I nominate Coy Harville to the DRMC Board to replace Betty. OK LPNT now you have a chance to convince the community of your intentions, your staffing ratios, and your care and concern for our community. I double dog dare you to be honest you high fiving fool!!!!!!!!!

Note to Sentinel Event: Watch out..."deserves to be on the front page" left a large clue as to who he is on the next to the last line.

Wake up, Bloggers! I have it on top authority that the posting that leads this chain was written by none other than B. R. "Bob" Ashby himself! --Dan River Girl

The removal of the Site Meter on this WebLog pretty much establishes that it is sponsored by LifePoint.

Can Sentinel Event provide some reasons for removing the Site Meter?

Deception and mendacity come naturally to the LifePoint managers. It has much to do with why they are such stumbletons when it comes to their feeble attempts at running our hospital.

I have had hopes for seeing another side to this, but I feel they are hopeless. We will be better off when they are gone.

Don't let lifept or the filthy five beat us down...so what if it is their blog...now they know how we feel...if they cut out the site meter...I'm taking my words to the streets...Bishop is having a meeting at Bible Way Church this week...I will be there. DRMC slave

Bobby Raye Ashby is an embarrassment to Danville. No I am so sorry Danvile; heis an embarrassment to Schoolfield where so many hardworking honest people came from. What a shyster!! This blog is working for those inside the hospital, someone send it out on the lpnt seb you might be surprised how others feel about lpnt

Sharp quote from an outraged local senior: "Staff doesn't trust Lifepoint. Public doesn't trust Lifepoint. It's over."

While I am sure that Bob Ashby is articulate and there are plenty of reasons to doubt, he did not post the "Front Page" blog. I did.

I have no dog in this hunt. The person who said they have it from a "top authority" is wrong. She is another victim of the rumor mill.

I choose to remain anonymous at this time, however I am not any person in Lifepoint's employ, nor am I any former member of hospital administration.

I know more and will tell more at a future date. For now, I will refer to myself as Savage LS
