So....What's your take?

I can't quite decide how to feel about the letter that we all received. Should I be encouraged that they're communicating with us? Is it just PR fluff? Or....well....is it just me or does it seem like something is being pinned on us?

If you don't have your copy handy....read the copy I posted in the right column. -->

Ya know....for the trouble it took to write the letter and mail it to all of us, they could've just had a face-to-face with us. Just a thought......

I think the letter is clearly a form of PR fluff. It uses an old technique that more sophisticated PR operations have long-since abandoned. The trick is to take all the flimsy claims we heard last week--the oddly sourced patient satisfaction surveys; the refusal to answer questions about nurse ratios; the ER numbers that only they control--and follow up quickly with Lifepoint's stated claims as foundational points of fact. That's exactly what is being done here--plus casting harsh blame on those who would challenge or disagree.

Speaking of Lifepoint CEO William F. Carpenter, III, as you did earlier, he has a second Danville connection that has not been revealed.

In December, according to the Danville Register, a mystery man named Ron Fincher, representing "anonymous" investors, paid $3.9 million for the Hughes Home and 70 acres. Later, the newspaper reported Fincher’s connection to “Psychiatric Associates, Inc” as an officer. Standard financial sources do not show a public company by that name.

In the story, Fincher is quoted as saying that this group is looking into opening a psychiatric facility at the Hughes Home property. It would mainly offer psychiatric services for wayward young people deemed to have mental problems.

In reality, Ron Fincher is an officer for a public company called “Psychiatric Solutions, Inc.,” a $2 billion company located in Franklin, Tennessee. It operates psychiatric facilities all over the United States.

Lifepoint’s CEO William F. Carpenter, III, sits on the Board of Directors of Psychiatric Solutions.

Maybe Lifepoint and Psychiatric Solutions, joined in their interests by Mr. Carpenter, will be fishing for huge Medicare pay-outs here in Danville.

Just a thought.

Well it sounds to me that the local Lifepoint is trying to blame the staff of the hospital for the failures that the hospital is seeing. It also sounds as if Lifepoint is scared outta their minds that they may not do well on this looming JCAHO survey. Without JCAHO the hospital will literally cease to exist and they realize that. Folks, this letter is not them saying thanks to us in any way, shape, or form. This is Lifepoint saying please help us keep our investment safe so that we can continue to stick it to you, while we continue to pad our pockets. Do not be fooled by the devils that have lied to us since day one. There is no trust to be had. We can never believe anything that they say anymore. They have lied to the staff, the doctors, and the community. Now is the time to demand that our hospital be given back to us. Al beit by selling it back or selling us to a company that will continue our previous model of healthcare. Lifepoint has no business being here in Danville and certainly no business trying to run a hospital of our size. Lifepoint has no friends here and will always be criticized by the staff and the public. The hospital will never return to its previous model of healthcare as long as it is operated by Lifepoint. Lifepoint has its own objective and patient care is not at the top. So in closing, please consider these things when reading that fluffed up letter sent by the local Lifpoint. They are all liars and that is a proven FACT.

The poster is correct. That's the thing about lies. Lifepoint's lies, distortions and obvious contempt for our community destroyed its credibility almost instantly. Even if they should tell the truth about something, who would believe them? They have destroyed their reputation. And I think Scalpel is correct also. They are up to something with trying to turn Hughes Home into a psychiatric ward for troubled youths. You better keep an eye on that one, too! --Dry Fork

Here's how I saw that ridiculous letter: "Okay, we've given you people from Dumbville a chance, and now we've cooked the books to show you how good we are, and now you better get on board or your a-- is grass." That's the way my husband and I read that letter.

The letter was just that...a letter. It was reiterating what's been said before......... SALPEL has stated the truth about the "tie", but what's new with that? Members of health care organizations boards often are interspersed with members common to another organization.
As an employee, my concern about being successful with the Joint Commission survey is that if we aren't, we stand to lose in many areas. Some employees feel the need to "sabotage LifePOint" in this manner. If that's the case, we are are sabotaging one another, not LifePoint per se.

Ah the letter.... !
Signed by Art, Betty and Dr Smith.......DR SMITH, OMG....now there's one to instill confidence in staff. He's always nodding his head in agreement with WHOMEVER he thinks he can gain favor with. But then his ED practice was bought out d/t it's poor financial situation and lack of standards of practice. All just before he was to assume the role of Chief of the Medical Staff ( who loathe him overall). But hey, he's a leader !
