"Medical director of Heart Center to leave for Utah position"

Danville Register & Bee
Tuesday, August 14, 2007

DANVILLE - Danville Regional Medical Center announced Monday that Dr. Lee McCann, medical director of the hospital’s Heart Center of the Piedmont, will be leaving to take a position at Utah Valley Regional Hospital in Provo, Utah.
With that announcement, the hospital also announced that it will be doing a “service line assessment” in collaboration with the clinical staff of the Duke Heart Center and local cardiologists to improve the cardiovascular care at Danville Regional.
The assessment will take approximately five months.
A hospital spokesman said he did not know if Danville Regional would be actively seeking a replacement for McCann while the assessment is being conducted.
McCann has been with Danville Regional for two years.
The Heart Center of the Piedmont was opened in 2003 and was affiliated with Duke Medical Center until December 2005 when Duke withdrew its affiliation. However, McCann continued to be part of the Duke staff and worked principally at Danville Regional.
McCann will leave for Utah in approximately six months.

Dr. McCann is a great surgeon and because of that, he could not stay with an orginization that will not work with him or Duke. Duke has repeatedly asked Lifepoint to increase nurse-to-patient ratios on Telemetry, they will NOT. They have repeatedly, along with Dr. McCann, asked for a seperate CVICU and CVICU stepdown, again, they will NOT. Duke DID NOT drop the affilitation with DRMC. Duke thought the ICU staff, and everyone else involved, was doing an incredible job with this program. Lifepoint CHOOSE not to renew its afflitation with Duke, contrayr to the way the paper portrays it. Think about it people, Duke was so committed to this program that even when Lifepoint would not with them and did not renew the contract, they still kept Dr. McCann in Danville and sent another surgeon as back up for each and everyone open-heart he had to perform. They even sent a surgeon to Danville to allow him to take days off. Finally, they even hired him a nurse practitioner as an assistant. So you tell me, Who bolted on who when it came to the open-heart program? Duke and Dr. McCann: I think not.

Stock $28.37. Down another 91 cents today. Good job Brentwood.

More excellent reasons to avoid LifePoint. It would take a very stupid person to go into Lifepoint-DRMC if he could go elsewhere.

Why do you care about the stock price....it seems like to WANT Lifepoint to fail.

Anonymous said...

The falling stock is a direct corrolation as to the way they are running DRMC; into the ground!

And the lower the stock goes, the more stockholders will demand "performance" and the more resources will be taken from DRMC

Now that the article is in the paper stand by for the lies and blame on the employees and the public, Did Joint Comm. come today? Understand that lpnt may have threatened Joint comm with legal action.Just another example of their ignorance.

Exactly, you wait and see. Lifepoint will blame the nurses for driving the heart program away because we were not team players and insisted on safe nurse-to-patient ratios. Watch them blame the doctors because they went to other hospitals that had good nurse-to-patient ratios. Finally, watch them blame the community who decided to talk with their wallets and go to where they would get safe care. The spin has already started when they told the paper that Duke withdrew their affiliation with them in 2005. 2005, Humm, right around the time lifepoint bought out DRMC and began their slash and burn tactics. Can't wait to hear the BS that spews out of the administrator's mouths with this one.

And Just wait until the "ruthless" meetings with the staff.SLASH burn chastize and threaten.

Can't wait. More staff talking about leaving, everyone is frustrated, and losing Dr. McCann is just the icing on the cake. Morale is lower than a snakes belly and this woman still thinks it is a nebulous concept that cannot be measured. I guess she was absent during that day in school.

The only problem I have with LPNT now is this...there is no one in administration to hold staff accountable. Yes, LPNT brought many problems to our tables however the biggest now is the lack of accountability for poor nursing care.
Say what you will but we have created many of our problems ourselves and it's getting crazy around these parts!!

Not really. Poor patient care can be directly linked to Lifepoint's ridiculous staffing grids. These grids are extremely unsafe. DO NOT blame the over worked nurses of DRMC for Lifepoint's greed and unwillingness to work with staff for safer nurse-patient ratios.

It is unfortunate that nursing ratios are as they are, but also the general employment; i.e., be it administration, billing, HR, physician services, etc. I know one of the greatest expense any corporation experiences is its employees with salaries, benefits, etc. But, why does the only hospital in our city have to be so compromised to force employees and physicians to feel they HAVE to leave employment with DRMC just to be safe, provide more quality healthcare, as well as seek less strain and threats by continued affiliation with our only existing hospital?? Anyway you look at it, it still becomes the "almighty buck and greed."

Yes JCAHO came today 8/15/07
Lots of rumers going around. Two of the biggest. 1, Lifepoint listed the improvements and more or less said if they did not pass they would find another inspection group that would pass them. JCAHO is not the only group out there. 2, All the directors were pulled into a meeting the other day and told what they could say and what they could not say. Did they pass todays inspection only time will tell.

Yes,JCAHO is NOT the only way to go:

I totally agree with the lack of accountability. No one is accountable for anything! The poor care is not all due to lack of staffing. Some of it is the caliber of the staff on hand, starting with the directors. When management such as the directors don't care why should the staff?

Anonymous said...

And which Directors would you be referring to? and what gives you the impression that they do not care?

Anonymous said...

There are plenty of people that care at DRMC. That is why we are there. We will be accredited by JCAHO, some are hopeful that that will be a starting point to prove that we are trying extremely hard to turn things around and get back on track. But we must move forward and stop looking back at the mistakes made in the past.

How can anyone talk about a fresh start? How stupid can you get. The only hope is to run these slimeballs out of town.

How many times do you have to see Lifepoint's true colors before you understand that thyey lie, cheat and steal whatever is in their domain.

Lifepoint wants to lull you into a false sense of hope while they whistle on the way to the bank.
The most disgraceful company that ever could have been dumped on danville.
Now that they've destroyed everything pay scale , staffing , heart program,(and let's be clear Duke is pulling it due to Lifepoints reputation and the fact that lifepoint has destroyed all of the hard earned credibility that Duke helped earn in this community)they are free to garner their plans to run the new DRMC nursing home formerly known as the 350 bed DRMC-hospital, oh well it was good while it lasted.

Where's the post-er who had the Jess Judy letter to the MD's, it may shed some light on the threatening stance lifepoint has taken with the MD's,

I sent a copy to SE and haven't seen anything yet.

Come on, SE. Let's see the Jess Judy email. We trust you to retype and post, if the scan doesn't work.

Accountability lacking? You are right that is the problem; it has always been the problem. It is worse now. RUTHless functions with little to no accountaiblity. She is a pro in deflecting the blame to others and protecting her little den of followers. she appears to work well with Anderson but i think he is smart and is biding his time until this snake leaves. She will be the ruin of this organization, nursing practice and accountability but she will never receive the credit. She has done this before she is a pro in assurring others take the heat.
