Ciizens Commission, are you still out there?

It's been a month since the Register & Bee last gave us an update on Mayor Williams' Citizens Commission...so, what's new?
The only development in recent weeks is the removal of the Public Comment archive from the website....no minutes, no updates....nothing to let us know they are still alive and well.

Time is not really a luxury we have with this situation.

Then again, maybe it is...it has, after all, been almost a month since we found out about the Joint Commission preliminary denial of accreditation and few outside the inner sanctum have any idea what didn't pass muster.

Tick...tock....

Is there any way to file a court paper to make them disclose the information in the interest of public safety, since the City and County are responsible for provision of public safety.

This whole situation cries out for a smart young Danville lawyer who wants to make a name for himself by tackling issues like this. He would become a public hero. He could get elected to anything. People would flock to him with business of all kinds. Do we not have any such people in this area?

I hear the commission is getting a consultant to help them decide what to look at. Sounds like Lifepoint logic. Like get a JCAHO expert to help them pass, instead they fail. Outside people waste time and money while things get worse. They have to relearn the problems and issues. The commission members are all consumers of healthcare or deliverers of healthcare. They should know what changes have been made to the detriment of the community. The sale is a done deal. A separate issue. Let's deal with improving healthcare for those who live here.

We had a Joint Commission expert that orked for Quality- BW did a great job and we pased our last survey with flying colors thanks in no small part to her expertise. Mr. Grossman chased her across the steet to Informaion systems since she obviously knew alot more than he did. That was not lifepoint, he was here way before lifepoint existed. They just scewed up when they made him the CNO. But in their defense, I am sure he touted himself as someone that could help smooth the way since he had been with the hospital for so long...Too bad they didn't realize he had applied several times for the job in the past and didn't get it. I am sure there were good reasons for that.

The citizens commission is still alive and well. The removal of the public comment archive from the website was a decision made by the mayor. Apparently keeping the identity private of individuals who posted anonymously was in question thus the need for only commission members to have access to the comments. The commission is working on scheduling the public forums as well as developing a survey. The mayor is having a consultant work with the commission to help determine the survey format and the questions. The members want the commission to be an effective channel as it gathers information from all sources (forums, surveys, website) and then presents its findings to city council, Lifepoint, etc. The commission members are citizens like everyone else and realize the importance of having quality healthcare in the Danville region. Too bad the newspaper is not reporting on any of this and keeping the public informed.

Thanks for that clarification. Let's hope the commission can get the newspaper on board and keep giving us updates on the progress.

The public comment archive was removed from the website by the mayor of Danville. The mayor is also a physician who practices at DRMC....Conflict of interest????
