Interesting. Out of the ten people featured in the videos six are managers. One of the managers recently quit to go to another hospital and came back only after getting a healthy increase in salary. Of the two nurses featured, did not one quit and go to Moses Cone and returned back just a few years ago? Finally, If Dr. Kuennan's wife (the nursing student) believes so much in the orginization, why is her husband's group going to stop admitting patient's at the end of the month and only see them in the office?

DRMC will find it difficult to feature any of the chemotherapy nurses. Five of the seven nurses who work the chemotherapy floor (5A)have recently resigned. Ruth McDaniel told the head nurse on 5A to submit a plan outlining how to fix the problem. The head nurse submitted her resignation as well. Fortunately Drs. Brotherton and Caldwell do the majority of chemotherapy treatment in their office. How can the hospital maintain a chemotherapy floor with only two nurses trained in this area? Will the oncologists now have to admit patients to other area hospitals for inpatient chemotherapy treatment? What a mess.

I can tell you many were asked to be part of these videos before they found these ten. I was among the people asked that did not do it. I saw the list and many names were crossed out along with mine. Lifepoint can do all the PR they want but as long a people have poor care things will not change. Two people I know enough to call friends were in the Hospital with in the last 3 weeks. I told them for now they should maybe look at going somewere else until things improve. But they went to DRMC anyway. Both agreeded they should have gone somewere else. One transfered out the other was discharged. Both complained of diry rooms and the feeling they needed someone to stay with them to help with things the nurses did not have time for. I don't go around bad mouthing Lifepoint's care but I will tell my friends how it is. I hope Lifepoint makes things better but until they can take care of patients properly and people come out all thinking there is no better place I will continue to tell those that ask to go somewere else.

Anonymous said...

Then why don't you go work somewhere else as well. Wouldn't that b eteh logical thing to do untill LPNT gets things fixrd. I'd never work at a place where i was telling others to avoid. Makes you rather hypocritical. Why speak in terms of lifepoint making things better? They're in Nashville...you're here. Have you ever thought of just doing one thing to make it better?

Anonymous said...

I say we all form our own ad campaign: "Why we continue to draw paychecks from DRMC but bash them in public." We could shroud our faces or do the "secret witness" shadow. It should help clear things up.

Anonymous said...

I have done what I think is right I have stayed not jumping ship like so many others. I work hard to do the best I can all the time unlike others who work there for the pay check. If everyone who thought as I do left the hospital would close there are many who feel as I do. we all have hopes Lifepoint will make changes in the right direction. I will not tell tell lies that DRMC is a great place. It's not but it could be. If these people were in my area I would have told them different. Just like the post above Ruth told the head nurse to fix it. Thats not the headnurses job. Ruth should have asked here for ideas then worked with the nurse to come up with a plan. Thats the way to get things done as a team. The admins have lost the respect of the most of the hospital personal and the Community. That were the first part of the changes need to start.

Is it true that the Director for 5A was "let go" today because she turned in her resignation?

Anonymous said...

Robyn Keller...give us a break!

Anonymous said...

Truth is she got mad when it was anounced in a manager's meeting that 3-B is going to 6-D. She said that the floor was promised to her and had a few choice words for Ruth. I say congratulations to her for not taking their crap and standing her ground. Because putting telemetry patients in semi-private rooms is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Yes, the rooms on 3-B are extremely small and dangerous, but, so is doubling up on step-down patients.

Anonymous said...

You mean the Director of 5A is not working a notice? No way!

Anonymous said...

Too important not to be repeated:

As a nurse that lives in Danville and works at Duke let me shed some light on our ratios. To the above poster that states that some of the finest hospitals in America use the same formula as Lifepoint: BULL. As you know, or maybe not, Duke is ranked the 7th best hospital in the entire nation. Our staffing grids are as follows: ICU 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acquity, Step-down 1:3 or 1:4 depending on acquity, and med-surg is 1:5 or 1:6 depending on acquity. You see Duke staffs for ACQUITY not NUMBERS. If you want further proof, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and UVA all which ranked within the top 50 hospitals in America have the exact same ratios. So your charge per pt day or man hours per day mumbo-jumbo is used mainly in for-profit hospitals. Finally, a little research within the literature will tell you that patient outcomes across the board are worse in for-profit hospital than not-for-profit hospitals.

uuuh!?... Isn't 6D the Psychiatric floor?

Anonymous said...

The Director of 5A is NOT working a notice!!! She is gone!

Anonymous said...

"uuuh!?... Isn't 6D the Psychiatric floor?"

You are right. Sorry! Meant to say 6-A.

Anonymous said...

Ruth should have been involved fromthe start on this unit. It was widely understood for months that there were problems. Then when the unit combined with 5A (on a friday when the director was absent) the nurses became increasingly more frustrated. Where was Ruth then? Probably on a plane home or off with her buddies. Leadership fromt he top is imperitive. I am staying to see the new CNO in hopes things will improve but I am already interviewing elsewhere. We can not maintain committed qualified staff with a lack of compassion, honesty, respect we see from those in charge. Everyday, I hear of more quality employees leaving many without a plea to stay.

Anonymous said...

TO THE POST Have you ever thought of just doing one thing to make it better?
I have several ideas but Lifepoint will hardly give most of us the time of day. I would love to turn this place around but I clearly see that will not happen until lifepoint is gone. It seems to be I know whats best for you or it's our way or the highway and many are takeing the highway and I guess it's time for me to do the same.

TO WHOMEVER THINKS PUTTING 3B ON 6A IS THE DUMBEST IDEA THEY HAVE EVER HEARD, TRY RUNNING A CODE IN ONE OF THE ROOMS ON 3B. NOT ONLY THAT WHEN THE PCI'S COME BACK FROM CATH LAB THERE ARE AT LEAST 3 PUMPS IN THE ROOM AND CHECKING GROINS EVERY 15 MINUTES WITH A TABLE AND POLES AND FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE WAY CAN BE A BIT DIFFICULT. AND IM SURE THATS NOT THE DUMBEST THING YOU'VE EVER HEARD.

Anonymous said...

yes and she is also the director with the most negative attitude and poorest management skills. she was pretty much told to leave and then we welcomed her back and paid her more in the bargain. Sad but true. she had good friends in the inner circle who talked her up. she is smart and knows what to say and to whom but most know her for the hypocrit she is.

Anonymous said...

When I left DRMC after 15 yrs, nobody said anything but when can you turn your badge? I had no less than a 98% on all of my evaluations. lifepoint doesn't care who leaves, they just want a warm body with a license.

Anonymous said...

Amen!!! They want travelers...thats it.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have the FACTS as to why the Director left without working a notice??

You are right. Those rooms are woefully inadequate. But, think how much fun you will have when you are running a code or checkiing groins post cath with TWICE as many patients, pumps, tables, and family members because you now have TWO patients per room. Think about it, Good ole DRMC is only going to give you 8 private rooms.

I give management points for attempting something to regain the trust of the community. I also give them some credit they probably are wearing more than one hat.

However I have found that just plaIn word of mouth gets results faster and better than a sugar coated commercial. Once again you have used the same small group of people.
I challenge you to look deeper at the staff at DRMC there you will find members that were born at DRMC and have spent the majority of their working lives dedicated to DRMC.
You will find people that left but chose to return to DRMC and the Pitts county area. Showcase their interaction with the comunity -- that's what I expected with the neighbor to neighbor title.

Use the staff that the patients will come into contact with when they visit here.

The biggest thing that exec. management needs to understand is that they need to get down to my level and make a committment to me. What is it that I really need to get me job done?? I need a few simple things -- adequate staffing; instruments that function properly; contract and paperwork signed in a timely manner; ability to make orders without needing exec aproval; and a LIS that meets my needs not causes me more work and frustration.
One more thing -- you need to really listen to me when I tell you what to do to keep clients. After all isn't that why you hired me?

If the staff at DRMC feels that the exec's are supporting them then morale will improve greatly. They will say good things about their jobs and DRMC and that will become contagious spreading into the comunity.

It is time for the staff to put a stop to negative vibes and the exec's need to help us.

We, the staff, can make a difference but we need a real leader.

I' ready to step up and make it happen...I don't want to be a statistic.

Very well put.

Are there any physicians at the hospital? How can one expect to trust a hospital pr campaign without physician representation in it.

Looks like a PR campaign with a glass only half full.

LPNT stocks seem to reflect the same.

Trust that this is quality healthcare?
S...u...u...u...u...u...r...e.
No PROBLEM!

Anonymous said...

That's the point and the reason Lifepoint is doomed to failure. Only fools trust them, so that's what you end up with.

Anonymous said...

I just got my mom out of that dump. It is filthy! Two of the nurses were poorly trained, arrogant idiots. Incredible. We will never go back.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like some of our finest long term employees.

Anonymous said...

I say "AMEN" to the comments from the poster who does not want to be a statistic! It could have been written by the majority of the people in my department. We want DRMC to be successful. We know how. It is past time for our Administration to look up from their formulas and number-crunching and the way everyone else at Lifepoint does things and TALK with us. LISTEN to us. LEARN from us. After all, WE are the ones who had taken DRMC to the level it was that made it attractive enough for Lifepoint to buy in the first place.

Anonymous said...

As an employee, it is amazing how much reverence has been paid to a former computer system. It is as if that system made us such a great and wonderful place. Well, when tht was taken away,we were still here.Hate to tell you fellow employees and public, but so are all the problems that wrer here too, before LifePoint ever came around.

Anonymous said...

there were many problems before lifepoint came around but I do not remember such a lack of honesty and respect from the administration. We are not idiots yet we are not valued as contributors. Those who are the chosen few are afraid to challenge or speak up and that is why they remain the chosen ones. how can any organization improve when theworkers are not allowed or feel comfortable to challenge the leaders to do better? Fear, intimidation and lies are not the path to follow. Those who refuse to follow the path have long left the organization.

Anonymous said...

A very important observation. Things always could have been better, but tyhere was an honesty and integrity from the management that inspired confidence. All of that has been washed away by arrogance and greed. I don't know how you ever rebuuild trust after such a horrible collapse of confidence. I quite recently and now have a new and good life. God bless the poor workers and patients.

Anonymous said...

That is the golden question..how do you repair this? I am not sure at times if that is possible. Many of my colleagues feel the same way. Hopelessness is a very sad condition.

Anonymous said...

To clarify, NO, the former computer systems did NOT make us who we WERE, but what we had in my department enabled me to do my job much more efficiently. It takes me 3-4 times longer to produce one report and I now have to pull several reports to create one that used to take only 1 or 2. Keying in data regarding patient care is very tedious with multiple screens that are not the easiest to navigate through. So, bottom line, the former systems were designed so that we spent less time at a computer terminal and more time providing patient care.

As an outsider, I would say that if management doesn't want to hear your suggestions, then you have your answer. It's not necessarily incumbant upon employees to "fix" poor business practices, but merely to do the job you were hired to. Good employees on the other hand constantly seek out ways to improve the business. Management who isn't willing to listen stifles that. So if things within your realm of jurisdiction aren't being done adequatley your only option is to go somewhere where it is. If management was asking for suggestions and heeding the reasonable suggestions then it would be a diiferent matter and I would say stick it out and allow time for changes to be implemented.
Once it reaches the point that you feel hopeless then for your and your families well being the reasonable option is to seek employment elsewhwere. Life's to short to spend your working hours being miserable, and lets face it you spend more waking hours at your job than you do with your family. DRMC is not the be all, end all of life. If they closed or sold out tomorrow, life would go on here and elsewhere. It would certainly change things, but the important parts of each of your (and our) lives would still be intact (family, social, church etc.)
Possibly the only way to really effect change is when enough people have become disgruntaled and moved on with their lives. Then maybe the proper things would happen to avoid sale or closure.

Anonymous said...

You are right we all have choice and the distressing piece is that those who we need to keep because of their skill, experience and training are leaving and those that are staying are one'e who either feel stuck (i.e. happy with the status quo and not comfortable with change) or those who can't find work elsewhere. Neither is the person i want to see caring for me at the bedside or leading as a department director.

Anonymous said...

Good people are leaving everyday. 5A lost about 5 nurses (not just nurses but ones certified to give chemotherapy), and ICU just lost 2 more nurses. We have made suggestions time and time again only to be given the patented managerial answer "Things will get better" to our faces and then talked about behind our backs. The arrogance that upper management has for Danville and DRMC is pathetic. You know it is bad when the queen company girl, Laura Prescott, is quitting. I guess that letter in the paper telling everyone to pull together, quit bad-mouthing the hospital, and suggesting that the community has a role to play in straightening out this mess does not apply to her. The community did not create this mess, however, Lifepoint will gladly lay the blame on the community for not bowing down and kissing their feet. I guess they just did not realize how much fight the citizens of Danville had in them.

"As an outsider, I would say that if management doesn't want to hear your suggestions, then you have your answer. "

Amen, amen, amen and amen.

Thank you for visiting...you nailed it. That's the frustrating truth for those who have years invested at DRMC and WANT to do what it takes to get the train back on the rails.

Yours was a very good post...I'll close my comment with one other quote from your post:

"Life's too short to spend your working hours being miserable"

Anonymous said...

"Life's too short to spend your working hours being miserable"

Right , and as for those that still demand that it is the same everywhere, judging by the posts from those that have moved on ,and to those from other areas, and by those that have NOT returned, and by those that people have talked to in other regions ,and by discussions with employees in other hospitals, IT'S NOT the same. DRMC has been destroyed by a deceitful, unethical, greedy bully ,the worst kind of corporation : A for-profit hospital: lifepoint.

My recommendation, well I've made it after a great deal of research ,
goodbye to DRMC........RIP

remember Pemberton yelling at all the secretaries!! moved to mcminnville tennessee and a new spin Capella . How do you let River Park Hospital know what they are in for?

Anonymous said...

I learned about this site when I went to Danville to visit my aunt who was being treated at Lifepoint. From the first moment of seeing the haggard, impatient person trying to cover my aunt, I knew it was bad. It got worse. I ended up thinking there was only one person on the whole floor who could start a tube! I cannot imagine such incompetence. We did not move my aunt, but we will sure never go back to Danville Lifepoint.

Also, where do those letters in the Danville paper come from? It's all like something in the Sunday comics, but it's deadly serious.

Also, who are the Boys at the Bank????

Anonymous said...

My view from the inside is that things have suddenly gotten worse. Its like they got an extra dose of arrogance as soon as the got off the Joint Commission's watch list. It's easy for someone here to say lifes too short to be miserable at work. Some of us just can't make nsuch choices for many, many reasons. If the moral here gets anyu worse, it will sink through the floor.

Anonymous said...

I bet we could hire two good nurses for what they are paying that creep from Tennessee whose writing all the love letters the newspaper is printing.

Anonymous said...

FYI: The Boys at the Bank are the thieves who sold the community down the river by selling our hospital and bringing in Lifepoint. They were mainly all connected to the American National Bank that has done so much to wreck our region.

Does Lifepoint in Danville use midwives? I wish someone wuld answer that. I couldn't get a straight answer on the phone.

Anonymous said...

IS PEMBERTON IN TENNESSEE?????

Anonymous said...

Boy, that video is something. Like my grandaddy used to say: Slick as snot on a doorknob.

Anonymous said...

Sure they use midwives. That's what happened when the young woman from Chatham died over here. She came in to deliver and her reg doc didn't show up and some midwife handled the delivery and bthe girlo bled to death. Hospital paid off big time.

Anonymous said...

When was Tom Pemberton here?

Anonymous said...

Tom Pemberton was the first "interim" CEO at DRMC when LifePoint acquired DRMC. He came to DRMC from Martinsville and had worked for Provence before LifePoint bought Martinsville.

"You know it is bad when the queen company girl, Laura Prescott, is quitting."

You can say what you want about laurie but she was NOT the queen company girl she tried endlessly to improve the situation and spoke up numerous times in defense of employees and Danville. she grew battle weary and choose to leave. And you are right in that it shows just how bad things have gotten that she reached a point of hopelessness.

Anonymous said...

Prescott did what she could, I feel, and if you know her, you know how her strong spirit descended into hopelessness in dealing with the spin-artists who have destroyed our hospital. I say Good bless to Prescott. She tried. People like that cannot survive in such a cesspool of back-biting and deceit.

Anonymous said...

Of course they use midwives. Wake up! Some people want that.

Everyone has choices that they make and they make decisions based on what is best for them and their families at the time. No one can say that leaving or staying is the best choice for anyone unless you are the one making that choice. It should speak VOLUMES that people who have actually left DRMC have now decided to come back to DRMC with all the bad press and negativity to try and make a difference. It is unfortunate that those who have used other staff members names on this blog did not have the same boldness to publish their own names. You all might want to sit back and make a decision for yourselves and leave DRMC because from the sounds of this website, you are actually part of the problem rather than being part of the solution. Shut your mouths, do your jobs to the best of your ability to actually earn the paycheck you take home and become part of the solution or get out!! As far as the nurse mentioned by name from an anonymous response, I would work with her any day and have her take care of me or any member of my family on any day of the week. I'm positive that the anonymous response was written by someone jealous of her intelligence and work ethic. I would think that having a truly competent nurse taking care of you would be much better than a nurse getting paid while out on a smoke break or having an affiar while on duty with an EMS crew member??? Gee, wouldn't take me long to decide which nurse I would want at the head of my bed...Sling your thoughts somewhere else or get out!! That's what would be best for the community and the staff who are actually there making a difference. And just to make a point- I'll sign anonymous as well because I wouldn't want the staff having the affair or cheating the system to know I know.

Anonymous said...

Wow...that was a very prolific and brave post regarding anonymous posters....right up until the end when you didn't sign it.

The poster that stated Shut your mouths, do your jobs to the best of your ability to actually earn the paycheck you take home and become part of the solution or get out! This has to be a Knifepoint person. I feel staying here not shutting my mouth about the problems is the best way to help the community. Letting people know possable problems areas and there are many. So we will not go away or shut or mouths. If knifepoint will fix the problems or leave that will be the only thing that shuts our mouths.
Most people I know that left or were let go have not returned another knifepoint lie. In fact most say it was the best move they could have made they are in a much better place than DRMC and I have talked with many. So I say to knifepoint shut up do your jobs that you get that big paychecks for and fix our hospital that's what would be best for the community.

Has anyone else noticed the fresh arrogance sweeping through lately? What are they so cocky about?

Anonymous said...

If Lifepoint is so proud opf being Lifepoint, why does there name never appear on the ads about Danville Regional? Have they learned that their name stands for all the thngs people fear?

Any comments????

Anonymous said...

I have just finished reading several postings on this blog sight. What a shame that insiders feel the need to create such turmoil. Do you not understand that if you drive the community away with fear, like you keep doing here and in the press, then the hospital will close down or down-size which will mean loss of jobs for those remaining on the inside. Do you really think Lifepoint will sell the hospital back to the community? If you think that then you probably need to have psychiatric counseling. At this point, Lifepoint probably would not be able to give the hospital away. Go somewhere else for care, go somewhere else to work and let it all take its course. It has obviously become a contest to see which egos will prevail...no one wins in situations like this...no one.

Anonymous said...

The citizens will win, they'll still be alive.

Anonymous said...

In the end, greed and arrogance always fails, so long as the people struggle to keep themselves informed. In the absence of a newspaper, this website is the only hope.

Anonymous said...

Have the people who sold the hospital become a part of the discussion on how to solve this horrendous mess?

Anonymous said...

I find it so interesting those who say if you don't like it just leave. Many people (non professional staff) do not have the options that the doctors and nurses do. They feel stuck because they need to continue to put food on the table. Jobs are not easy to come by. Many professionals stay because they have given 2-3 decades of their life to this hospital and feel they can not make a change so close to their retirement. (some of whom spoke in the hypocritical ad campaign). The people who are trying to survive and keep their heads low are the one's I feel for. They must encounter arrogance, dishonesty and empty promises. Working for the devil is difficult and you lose a piece of your self esteem and confidence every day. I also wish to clarify the devil is not LifePoint but the present CEO.

Anonymous said...

You are so correct.

There has never been a greater indignity for a moral, gifted person than to have to play piano in the whore house. That's what so many are having to do. God Bless them every one.

So did you all hear about how the night staff was treated to their celebration picnic for Joint Commission accreditation? There were not leadership members present to heat and serve the dinner. When they began to ask for food they called the nursing supervisor who found the food sitting cold in the kitchen. She could not find anyone who was named responsible to assure the night staff were properly cared for so she and the secuirty guard laid out cold food for the staff and they had to individually heat their own dinner! Big thank you! The next morning when the supervisor emailed RUTHless the response was another email sent to the department heads telling them THEY should take care of their staff. Wait one minute RUTHless aren't these people your staff as well? In the past managers signed up for such duties and that included the senior administration staff as well. But when these understaffed night workers reached for their cold food..RUTHless was sleeping in her warm bed. I must say that is a wonderful way to display gratitude and support. When will they figure out it is not the food, shirts, trinkets that win the staff support but the human element of treating them respectfully?

Anonymous said...

More proof of the hopelessness of the situation. Since they really do NOT care about patients or staff, their instincts run off the rails at every turn.

Anonymous said...

PERFECT example of the sorriness of the workers at Danville Regional--bitching about having to heat their own free food. God help us all!

Why doesn't the hospital ever mention their Open Heart program? It would seem that they would want everyone to know how well those patient out comes are, and what a phenom that Dr. Mccann is.

to:
PERFECT example of the sorriness of the workers at Danville Regional--bitching about having to heat their own free food. God help us all!

You are missing the point it was not heating the free food that was the problem. It was the fact that they were given no respect nor concern from the administrative team. A thank you means much more when it is genuinly extended. The staff have worked very hard and put up with many quick changes, fixes etc. to maintain the JC accreditation. They deserve a handshake and a sincere thank you not cold food slammed on a plate and to be forgotten. Actions speak louder than words. Reaching out to engage and work with the staff would create an atmosphere of we are in this together but instead the lack of concern or even ability to mix with the masses leads to further alienation. You can not lead an organization when you don't even try to understand the people and the their needs. These people could have gained points by rolling up their sleeves, slinging the hash and serving it to those who are working to provide the patient care. Many of these people have little time to eat the plate of food let alone heat it. The gesture is what counts not the actual food. A dog might appreciate a burger thrown his way but a human being wants it handed to them with a smile and sincere gesture.

Anonymous said...

I'll sign anonymous as well because I wouldn't want the staff having the affair or cheating the system to know I know.

I hear there are plenty of extracurricular activities in the business office and finance office as well? Martinsville sent their dirty little affairs to Danville and I am sure had a party with good riddence on the banner that day!

One big reason for not bragging about Dr. McCann is that he has already announced that he is leaving! He's no dummy.

PERFECT example of the sorriness of the workers at Danville Regional--bitching about having to heat their own free food. God help us all!

Again, some idiot that has not a clue what the staff of the hospital goes through everyday. We would gladly heat our own food if we had any to heat. It is not the food we are worried about, it is the gesture that counts. Everyone in management was all over the place tooting their own horns at the day picnic when they had a audience, but, nowhere to be found for the poor workers that keep the hospital running at night. They think they are doing something by giving us shirts, lunch bags, and free food as a gesture of thanks. All those things mean nothing without a sincere sense of gratitude. It probably killed the new CFO to have to give away free food. Forget your trinkets. Treat us like equals, treat us with dignity and respect, come out of your ivory towers and make yourself present throughout the hospital, and listen to our concerns and stop saying "things will get better". Two years down the road and nothing is better. So to the above poster, please get your facts straight before you criticize bacause I can promise you that the workers at DRMC work harder than you ever could. And before you say "Well they were at the hospital all day do you really expect them to be there at night"? Yes I do. I work night, along with hundreds of others and we are expected to come in during the day for mandatory meetings, training, and inservices and then turn around and work allnight with NO sleep. So, YES, a few hours at night out of their precious schedule would hve gone along way to improve morale at the hospital. BUT, as we all remember, Ruth did say that morale was a nebulous subject that could be measured.

Anonymous said...

Lidted from another stream, but too important not to be sure everyone sees it:

Did everyone receive the e-mail sent out by Ruth. Where do they find these people? The new CNO is coming from corporate headquarters of TENET. TENET, a for-profit hospital that has been investigated and fined more often than LIfepoint/HCA which is amazing, since Lifepoint/HCA has paid, between the two of them, at least $20 miliion dollars if fines and are still being investigated by the FBI and congress. I honestly believe that Lifepoint, HCA, and TENET must just recycle their upper management every few years and trade them off in between companies. Because if you do the research, every CEO, COO, CFO, or CNO we have had has a background with one of these three companies. Another example of doing the same thing over and over again hoping for different results. Like Forrest Gump said.."Stupid is as stupid does".

Anonymous said...

So now we've woken up the night shift. It's always amazed me that people who choose to work nights bitch about everything they can when it comes to daytime workers. Maybe we day nurses could trade volumes of workload with you and see how you like it then. Hmmmm...

Anonymous said...

If I recall the patient load does not go down at night. The same amount of patients that are there during the day are also there at night, however, we do not have all the support services that they have during the day. The point was not to start a turf war between day and night shift, but, it seems as you do. The point of the post was to show how management work the day shift and never do anything to help out or even think about night shift. The other point was to show the disdain and lack of caring that management has for its workers.

Anonymous said...

My point is that the disdain and contempt you experience at night cannot possibly be worse than what we experience during the day shifts.

Anonymous said...

Seems like we can't even get along among ourselves, let alone with the leaders of our organization.

Ok...now I've seen it all..."The patient load does not go down at all at night." Good lord, who are you trying to gain sympathy from? You choose to work those hours, you do indeed do less work, and the majority of patiets sleep. Give this one a rest and get on to something significant. As much as you bitch about the fearless leaders, why in the world would you want to see them?

Anonymous said...

I think SE should remove the reference to "frigging" in that post. It has a vulgar connotation outside of the hospital.

Anonymous said...

Maybe, but it certainly is well accepted in a couple of places in the hospital.

Anonymous said...

Any health professional worth their weight understands that ther eis not less work on the night shift but often less people. If patients slept all night we would not require the staff who are admitting individuals, prepping for surgeries, performing assessments, drawing labs, administering pain meds and antibiotics etc. The nurse/patient ratio is higher as is that of the RTs, lab personel etc. lets not fight amongst ourselves we all work hard. And we can all agree that the lack of respect or genuine caring we receive from management hits us all. Possibly onthe day shift it hurts a bit more because it is in our face. We struggle to get that break and when we do we see the same directors sipping thier chi tea or complaining they can't purchase their chi tea (like it is the end of the world). That is the problem. Middle managers to include directors and others do not engage and avoid staff. Why is that?

Maybe because they feel the same as staff. maybe because they get little to know support and are struggling with preaching the party line when they don't believe it either. Where are the Os?

Anonymous said...

Lets see...Denny's staffs down on the night shift. Holiday Inn does the same thing. Doesn't anyone at DRMC have a lick of business sense. Methinks not. Just the ultimate in "victim thinking" and entitlement mentalities.

Anonymous said...

No. Just asking to be treated with dignity and respect. Nothing more; nothing less. Whether we work on the day or night shift.

Anonymous said...

Danville aint got a Dennys or a Holiday Inn.

Anonymous said...

As for "entitlement mentalities," what do expect from the "yessah-boss" society like ours? For generations, we have been subserviant to a ruling class.

This is why LifePoint came here, having been assured the population would continue allowing a ruling class to take advantage of them. Remember, the CEO in Tennessee called us "low-hanging fruit" in defending the stupidity of his being duped into buying Danville Regional.

It is exactly the reason that Lifepoint is so destructive to this community.

Anonymous said...

Brilliant. Sums it up perfectly.

But you've got to admit that Danville has shown some real backbone in this.

Anonymous said...

I'd call it sort of moderate backbone. Too little consistency. But a fair start.

A city with a strong tradtion along these lines would never have tolerated such an outrage as the sale--much less the vultures who bought the hospital.

Anonymous said...

That is why it was sold under the table. If it had gotten out it would have been a much bigger issue and they knew it. They may be good people but they made a bad choice to sale the hospital that the community paid for. To say they are short sighted is an under statement. They were put in place by the community to look after the hospital not to sale it. I think they should be held accountable in some form. If not the working class of danville better watch out or this will be just the beginning and the leaders will see they can walk all over you and nothng will happen. That is why I choose not to deal with any thing the Bankboys have a hand in.

Anonymous said...

Such sad ,pathetic little people. How can you badmouth the hand that feeds you? And don't give me that "well I can't drive song and dance" cause if things were REALLY as bad as what you whine, then you would desperately want to leave for safer ground!!

Anonymous said...

He's right. They do feed us--handing our our $200 million as they please.

Anonymous said...

Just watch all these courageous people knuckle under and resume saying yessah-boss as soon as the boys start handing out the cash. They got us, and they got us good.

Anonymous said...

Such sad ,pathetic little people. How can you badmouth the hand that feeds you? And don't give me that "well I can't drive song and dance" cause if things were REALLY as bad as what you whine, then you would desperately want to leave for safer ground!!

Could not agree with you more. That is why I am Duke bound in two more weeks.

I continue to find it distressing how we tear each other down versus supporting each other's efforts. We are a sad bunch.

Anonymous said...

I agree. But, If everyone was treated like professionals that might act like professionals. Something about being treated like useless trash makes you start acting that way. You can't lash out at the ones inflicting the pain, so you lah out at whoever you can.

Anonymous said...

"You choose to work those hours, you do indeed do less work, and the majority of patiets sleep."

Where have you been ?
There are several departments that are 24/7 ER ICU 3B etc....
Don't see many people sleeping,
fighting for there lives , having blood pushed in, procedures done in the rooms regularly at 1 2 4 in the AM. I'd love to know where you find people sleeping and the staff doing less , oh wait , I haven't been standing around watching like you have I've been to CT at midnight xray at 5 ,codes at ,well all the time, you weren't watching my pt. while i was trying to save yours "while they were sleeping" (ie. not breathing)_ you must be a lifepoint manager .
Get a grip Lifepoint wants this divide and conquer.

Anonymous said...

All clinical departments are 24-7 not jus tthe ED, CCu and 3B. Come on! We need to support each other not fight each other.

Anonymous said...

I saw the adds on tv today. Tell me please who thought it was appropriate to put Martha Hopkins on as representative of our best?

Anonymous said...

The same person that chose the rest. Steve and Pam are the only ones that truly are good caregivers, give good service, and nice people!

Anonymous said...

I think you are wrong regarding Martha. She works just as hard as the staff nurses. I have seen her do any job on the floor that needs doing. She will hekp us with the bedpans as much as help us with moving beds. I don't know about some managers, but I know she cares about the patients and wants to help the staff on the floor.

Anonymous said...

This just in from Cone....we were nearing our shift and thought we'd check the blog.
MArtha Hopkins in a commercial FOR DRMC. How many times did some of us hear her bash DRMC just before she left and especially after she went to Morehead. Then, it was all over Morehead ( and DRMC ) about how much she was was telling she was offered to return. I wonder if that included being a spokeperson?

Anonymous said...

This just in from Cone: Who cares about who is looking from Cone. There are many individuals all over the place that view this blog.

sentinel event said...

Hey poster from Moses Cone, thanks for checking the blog and contributing. Sorry for the "warm welcome" from the poster above.

Keep up the dialogue.

Anonymous said...

The only dialogue that Cone is keeping up is a "holier than thou" dialogue. They look down their noses at this blog.

Anonymous said...

But of course they look down their noses. They listen to this woman trash Danville and Life Point and then they sit down in the evening and watch her gush about how wonderful it is and how the care is great. So what is the truth Miss Martha? You can be bought evidently. She made no bones about it to whomever would listen about the fact they were paying her so much more. So they can only get people to speak publically who can be bought? Sad isn't it?

Anonymous said...

I work at Moses Cone and we don't look down our noses at anybody from Danville. Some of the best help we have gotten over the last 2 years came from Danville. We read the blog because they have shown it to us. I feel sorry for you guys. I have heard more than one mgr. say she would take anybody from Danville. The Dr.s have said it also.

Anonymous said...

"All clinical departments are 24-7 "

That's what I meant, sorry if it didn't come over that way,
lifepoint is jerking us all around.

Anonymous said...

It is true many excellent staff have lef tthe organization for surrounding hospitals. I hav ebeen told that they thank LifePoint daily it's contributions to the area nursing shortage. The sad piece is those that are leaving on a whole are the ones LifePoint should be fighting to keep.

Anonymous said...

Oooooh...looks like we have an education opportunity at DRMC. Hope this isn't a nurse responsible for accurate charting!

Spell Check please!

Anonymous said...

What does that last post even mean?

Anonymous said...

It means that the lifepoint flunkies still think they can make us look bad by putting posts on this blog. Most of the time their choice of words gives them away.

Anonymous said...

I find it funny that alot of people on here are saying dont bite the hand that feeds you. But im sure you support the Goodyear workers who bite the hand that feeds them every few years!! Whats more important life or tires...

Anonymous said...

Actually, I don't support the Goodyear strike.

Anonymous said...

The strikes are for principal, Rich people cutting your resources so that they can increase theirs, it's just that their benefits are so inflated that it takes thousands to feed their greed.
Lifepoint is exactly like Dan River and Goodyear and practically every other corporation in the USA a few who aren't generally qualified suck the life out of thousands who work and strain to support them.NAFTA, CAFTA the soon to be SAFTA are all shining examples of stupidity and greed based on the backs of working people, unions were originally designed to combat this NAFTA etc were developed because the average worker now is more educated and or more experienced than the average CEO CFO CNO COO VP etc...the aforementioned O's don't generally know how to produce anything just to be parasitic in nature just like lifepoint take all of the bonuses make a few pseudo positions and keep on stealing from the workers.
Today's strikes are yesterdays tea going into Boston harbor.

Anonymous said...

"Most of the time their choice of words gives them away."

So that means if I'm literate, I'm a Lifepoint flunkie???

hmmmmmm.

Anonymous said...

Not the spelling or grammar, the phrasing gives them away.

Anonymous said...

They're not even capable of faking intelligence.

Anonymous said...

Martha is in the ads because she was one of RUTHless' inner circle that RUTHless allowed to heavily influence her many bad decisions. Ruth McDaniels was the worst punishment that LPNT inflicted upon DRMC. Wonder how many hospitals they will send her to ruin before they finally let her go?
